Slip, Slop, Slap… and Snap!

Tuesday 15 November, 2011

Today SunSmart launches ‘A Summer to Remember' campaign on Facebook , asking young Victorians to share their favourite summer memories to win tickets to summer's biggest festivals, unbelievable experiences & lots more!

Sue Heward, SunSmart Manager, said: "Whether it's capturing that idyllic shot of the sun setting over the beach or a group of friends at the iconic Aussie BBQ , we want you to show us how you slip, slop, slap this summer on Facebook ."

"To win a host of great summer experiences, all you have to do is post your SunSmart summer memory on the SunSmartAus Facebook page and incorporate one of the Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide messages into the photo."

"The campaign is a reminder that tans and memories may fade but your skin remembers everything - all the sunburns, tans, solarium visits or just simple day-to-day time spent outdoors without sun protection. It all adds up, increasing your risk of skin cancer."

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world with 2 in 3 Australians diagnosed by the age of 70. Whilst cancer is often thought of as an older person's disease, this is not the case when it comes to skin cancer. Australian adolescents have by far the highest incidence of malignant melanoma in the world, compared with young people in other countries. In those aged 15-44 years, melanoma is the most common cancer, making up almost a quarter of all cancers for this age group.

"We recognise that summer memories and sunshine go hand in hand, but by inviting Victorians to share their favourite SunSmart summer memory on Facebook, we hope that we can encourage people to associate summer fun in the sun with sun protection," said Ms. Heward.

Recognising the importance of skin cancer prevention, a host of brands are joining the fight against skin cancer by generously donating prizes. Supporters include StereosonicFalls Festival , Summadayze, Globe, Surfing Victoria, Oakley, Sunshades sunglasses, DMK, The Rocks Push, Country Racing, Cancer Council sunscreen and sunglasses.

The competition is open to Victorian residents only. The judges will be looking for creative, SunSmart photos. An overall prize and ten runner-up prizes will be given away every fortnight until the competition closes on 14 February 2012. To enter, go to our Facebook  page - www.facebook.com/SunSmartAus .
