A Winter to Remember (Winter 2012)

 Winter to Remember

Following on from the success of A Summer to Remember, which utilised Facebook as a tool for communicating skin cancer messages, SunSmart developed and implemented A Winter to Remember.

Developed to educate and engage with adolescents and young people (16–24 years old), the campaign recognised that the slopes are a key setting where Victorians tended to get skin damage and sunburn in winter. The
campaign aimed to raise awareness among Victorians to always use sun protection at the snow and to continue to build an online community on Facebook.

A Winter to Remember invited its audience to guess the identity of a mystery skier portrayed in an image on a specially developed page on the SunSmart website.

Facebook fans were invited to guess who the mystery athlete in the image was with a new hint revealed each Friday in June.

The competition was incentivised with prizes for both the under 18s and over 18s. The first person to guess correctly under 18 years of age received a pair of Oakley sunglasses and the first person over 18 years of age won a weekend at Hotham for two people including accommodation, ski hire, equipment, lift pass, transport and a lesson with the mystery athlete.

The mystery skier was revealed to be Anna Segal who was crowned world champion at the start of 2011 at Deer Valley, USA and won first place at the AFP World Championships in Whistler.
