This Active Learning Module will guide GPs through the epidemiology of skin cancers in Australia, skin cancer prevention, balanced approach to UV and vitamin D awareness and the diagnosis and management of melanoma and the most common non-melanoma skin cancers.
Annotated naked eye and dermoscopic images will guide the participant through a series of case studies on the assessment, diagnosis and management of skin lesions. Information is provided regarding sun exposure and vitamin D, with recommendation for safe exposure. Biopsy techniques are demonstrated and indications for referral to specialists are outlined.

SunSmart offers an education session for GPs on the early detection and treatment of melanoma in general practice.
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. This workshop, presented by a dermatologist, helps GPs distinguish between melanoma and non-melanocytic skin cancers. It also covers the basics of ultraviolet radiation and the balance required for vitamin D, how to perform appropriate biopsies and excisions, and when referral to a specialist is necessary. The role of the practice nurse in the early detection of melanoma is also included.

Cancer Council Victoria recognise that the Australian climate and subsequent skin cancer risk is unique. To provide education and support to International Medical Graduates in the prevention and early detection of skin cancer in general practice, Cancer Council Victoria offer 1-day interactive workshops delivered by GPs and dermatologists. These workshops provide an overview of clinical skin cancer issues as well as access to resources offered by Cancer Council Victoria.
